Wear it. Care for it. Repeat.

Good care.
More good days.

A considered laundry routine is part of owning a cotton hoodie. Begin with the garment label, then make the small habits count.

The care label comes first.

HoodiePK’s hoodie is 100% cotton. The advice below is general guidance for cotton hoodies, not a replacement for the instructions on your garment. If its label is missing or unclear, ask us before washing.

Before the wash

Check. Sort. Turn.

Read the label, empty pockets, separate similar colors and turn the hoodie inside out.

In the wash

Keep it considered.

Use an appropriate program and detergent dose. A gentle cold wash is a cautious option when the garment label permits it.

After the wash

Reshape. Support. Dry.

Remove promptly, gently restore the shape and follow the drying instructions. Put it away only when completely dry.

1. Check whether it needs a full wash

There is no useful universal number of wears. A short outing over a clean T-shirt is different from a full day against your skin. Sweat, odor and visible dirt are good reasons to wash; a clean hoodie may only need airing before its next wear. Treat small marks appropriately rather than automatically washing the entire garment.

This approach is consistent with GINETEX’s Clevercare laundry guidance, which encourages washing thoughtfully, choosing suitable lower temperatures and using the right amount of detergent.

2. Prepare the hoodie and the load

Check every pocket, then turn the garment inside out. Wash with similar colors and avoid a tightly packed load. For a stain, use a treatment suitable for the fabric and color, test it in an inconspicuous area and follow the treatment’s instructions. Aggressive rubbing can leave its own visible mark.

Use the detergent dose for the load size, soil level and water conditions shown on the packaging. More detergent is not an automatic improvement. Do not apply bleach without checking both the care label and the product instructions.

3. Choose the temperature from the label

For a machine-washable cotton hoodie with ordinary everyday soil, cold water and a gentle program can be a cautious starting point if its label allows them. The temperature on a care symbol is a maximum, not an instruction to use the hottest possible cycle every time. A bar beneath the wash symbol signals a gentler process. See GINETEX’s care-label reference for the complete symbols.

A fabric name alone is not enough to select a program: the dye, finishing, construction and any trims also matter. Avoid guessing a hot wash to remove an unfamiliar stain; ask for suitable care advice instead.

4. Give drying as much attention as washing

Read the drying instruction separately. If the label permits air-drying, gently reshape the hoodie while damp and support its weight on a suitable rack or flat surface with airflow. Avoid pulling it into shape with force or suspending a heavy wet hoodie from narrow shoulder points.

Dry out of strong direct sunlight to limit unnecessary exposure, and check that the hood, cuffs and pocket areas are dry before storing. Use a tumble dryer only when the label permits it, at the indicated setting. Skip unnecessary heat and prolonged tumbling.

Can cotton shrink?

It can, but there is no single shrinkage figure for every cotton hoodie. Fabric construction, finishing and the wash and dry process all affect dimensional change. CottonWorks’ technical discussion of shrinkage explains the importance of fabric relaxation and mechanical action during tumbling. A cold wash is not a guarantee of zero shrinkage.

We do not publish a tested shrinkage percentage or a pre-shrunk claim for this hoodie. Choose the right fit before buying rather than trying to shrink a larger garment into the size you want.

5. Fold, store and repeat

Let the hoodie dry fully, fold it without stretching the cuffs and keep it in a clean, dry place. Fold the sleeves inward and bring the body up, allowing the hood to rest naturally rather than pulling on the neckline. If ironing is needed, follow the label’s permitted temperature and treatment.
